Singapore, Part 1

December 27-29, 2016

We made it to Singapore! It only took one 15 hour flight to Shanghai, a 7 hour and 40 minute layover and then another (6 hour) flight. The Shanghai airport was an exhausting experience. Having absolutely no idea what we were supposed to do or where we were supposed to catch our connecting flight, we roamed around the huge and empty airport bouncing from one counter to the next trying to piece information together. Finally we made it to the customs line and thought it wouldn’t take that long because there were only about 15 people in line at that point. After an hour waiting, we finally made it up to the counter.

Then it was on to try and track down our bags that we checked. We originally thought they would arrive at our final destination in Singapore when we landed but then a worker at the Shanghai airport told us that it was not possible. We were extremely lucky that we asked him otherwise our bags would have been left in Shanghai.

Also fun little thing piece of knowledge: when someone leaves their bag or is late to pick them up, as we were, the airports over here just leave them by the conveyor belt out in the open for anyone. It’s very bizarre but luckily we got our bags without a problem.

Then it was on to getting our next boarding pass for the second leg. We had a layover of just under 8 hours and surprisingly we needed every bit of it. Once we had our boarding passes, we then had to go through customs and finally security.

By this point it felt like we were drunk because of the lack of sleep. My eye was extremely blood shot and we were looking real rough.

Excited for edamame and free red wine

The 6 hour flight from Shanghai to Singapore felt much longer than the previous 15 hour one. But thanks to all the time in the air, I was able to watch a total of 8 movies and drink all the wine I wanted/could handle.

One of the many movies I watched – this one a doc on Adele

FINALLY we land in Singapore. After dealing with the Shanghai airport the Singapore one was a breeze. There were no customs line. Our bags were waiting for us out in the open (like before). We got a free foot massage. And finally had wifi!!!

Pajama pants and no makeup

After texting Momma Payne and checking emails, we headed to the “hotel” (that feels more like a hostel) to check in early to try and get some sleep.

Lesson of the day, the Chinese operate on their own time and the Shanghai airport is AWFUL!
